This page documents revisions made to the EMBO Molecular Medicine author guidelines since June 2014 by linking to the old version of the guidelines. In each case, the text that was changed to derive the current version is highlighted in red. Where a minor change has been made, this is documented on this page and no 'archive' guidelines are provided.

Updated the fees associated with cover design in the charges section.
Changes made November 21st 2016 (major edit)
Added detailed information regarding the EMBO Press policy on using preprint servers.
Added information regarding the new extended scooping protection offered to manuscripts submitted to EMBO Press journals that are dually hosted on preprint servers.
Updated the references and citations sections to include citations of manuscripts hosted on preprint servers.
Added formal details regarding the appeal process.
Updated the language of the Originality and Plagiarism and References and Citations sections for clarity.

The Submission of Revisions section was updated to reflect the correct dimensions for synopsis images.

The Transparent Process section was updated to express that data intended for reviewers only may be redacted from the transparent process file.

The Editorial Policies section was updated to make clear that articles published in the journal, accepted for publication, or revised after peer-review and ready for resubmission should not be submitted to preprint servers. Submission to preprint servers is only appropriate prior to - or in parallel with - a first submission to the journal.

The Transparent Process, Submission of Revisions, and Authorship Guidelines sections were updated to reflect the use of the author checklist in the transparent process.
The Authorship Guidelines section was updated to include information regarding the use of ORCID IDs. Additional updates to this section regard the submission of manuscripts from preprint servers.

Authors are required to report actual P values for each test, not a range. This was a criterion we had before but that was incorrectly removed in the February 25th changes.

Author Guidelines changed April 17th 2015 (major edit)
Editorial policy section was updated to better describe the responsibility of authors for the integrity of the data in a manuscript.
Explanations of 'Double-blind peer review' and 'Referee cross-commenting' were added to the Editorial Process section.
Scientific Integrity section was updated to describe the journal's pre-publication image checking process.
Mention of addenda was added to the Corrections section.
Transfer Policies were updated to include transfers from journals not published by EMBO Press.
Author Guidelines changed February 25th, 2015 (major edit)
The entire Author Guidelines were brought in line with the EMBO Press standard template. No information or policies were changes; the layout and text was restructured and consolidated.

Updated the Open Access fee from 3000 Euros to 2950 Euros, and to reflect changes to our automated online processing system.

Added MetaboLights as a recommended repository for depositing metabolomics data and suggested authors follow the recommendations of the Metabolomics Standards Initiative under the Data Deposition section.
